Indigent Defender Currently Assigned to Parish Court:

All litigants are entitled to an attorney.  If you desire the services of an attorney but cannot afford one,  you may request a public defender at your first court appearance.  The Court will take your testimony in open court to determine if you qualify for a Court-Appointed Attorney. This appointment must be requested and is not automatic.  Litigants may also apply for a public defender directly at the 23rd Judicial District Public Defender's Office.  Outside of court, requests for a public defender may be directed to the following:
